Coal has rarely if ever played a role in the formation of diamonds. In fact, most diamonds that have been dated are much older than Earth's first land plants the source material of coal! That alone should be enough evidence to shut down the idea that Earth's diamond deposits were formed from coal.

The strike spread to the south of Natal by the beginning of November, and by the 7th the strike was effectively underway, joined by about 15000 workers in spontaneous fashion. Anthracite coal has higher carbon content and is much harder than bituminous coal, thus earning the nickname "stone coal" in its early years of use. In 1803, Philadelphians watched a load of anthracite coal actually squelch a fire during a trial run, and city officials used the load of "stone coal.
